Conference overview

The 2nd Annual Northeast Regional Higher Education Neurodiversity Conference advances the mission of the Northeastern Regional Higher Education Neurodiversity Coalition (NEHENC) through expanded programming and regional collaboration. Hosted by the University of Rhode Island in partnership with Northeastern University, UConn, and UNH, this two-day conference brings together higher education professionals, employers, and practitioners committed to neurodiverse inclusion. This year’s enhanced program features three specialized tracks—Neurodiversity at Work, Neurodiversity in Higher Education, and General Interest—designed to facilitate knowledge sharing and strategic development. Through keynote presentations, interactive workshops, and focused discussions, attendees will explore evidence-based practices and innovative strategies that improve educational and employment outcomes for neurodivergent individuals while building a collaborative community dedicated to creating inclusive environments where neurodiversity is celebrated as a valuable asset.

Broader Impacts

The conference is both timely and relevant, as the neurodiverse population continues to grow on campus with estimates ranging from 20-40%[i], based on population representation. Students who identify as neurodivergent experience higher drop-out rates[ii], lower academic performance[iii], and lower employment retention rates[iv] after graduation than the general population. This conference serves as a regional catalyst for neurodiversity advancement, connecting academic institutions with industry partners while prioritizing authentic neurodivergent experiences. The comprehensive programming addresses the full spectrum from foundational understanding to advanced implementation strategies, making it valuable for both newcomers and experienced practitioners seeking evidence-based, actionable strategies for creating more inclusive environments.
